Assasuni, Satkhira
Living in the climate-vulnerable coastal region of Bardal under Assasuni Upazila in Satkhira district, Torulota Gain faced continuous challenges in sustaining traditional livestock rearing due to frequent saline water intrusion, damp ground conditions, and natural disasters.
The Initiative & Growth:
At the beginning of 2025, Torulota Gain adopted the modern, climate-resilient Slatted-Platform (Macha) Method for Goat and Sheep Rearing under the Resilient Homestead and Livelihood Support in the Vulnerable Coastal People of Bangladesh (RHL) Project, implemented by Unnayan Prochesta and funded by PKSF.
She started her venture with only 3 sheep. With technical guidance, training, and an elevated wooden slatted shed provided by Unnayan Prochesta, her flock grew healthily and expanded to 8 sheep in a short period.
Beneficiary Quote / Experience:
"Raising goats and sheep using the slatted-platform (Macha) method is an exceptionally effective and suitable approach for our coastal region. This method significantly reduces disease outbreaks and accelerates livestock production. Beyond boosting our household income, it provides a safe shelter to keep our livestock protected during cyclones and natural disasters." — Torulota Gain
Impact & Outcome:
Through this climate-adaptive livestock model, Torulota Gain has not only increased her family's financial stability and asset growth, but she has also created a sustainable safeguard for her livelihoods against natural calamities in coastal Satkhira.
